2019 is upon us, and in Asia, we are soon celebrating the lunar new year. As the traditional Spring Festival still holds an important role in the Chinese and Asian culture, every year at this occasion, we make sure to prepare a special gift for the clients and friends of Prophet to show our gratitude. In the past, it has been Oolong tea in the Year of the Monkey or incense in the Year of the Dog.
This year, in the Year of the Pig, we forewent the simple route of packaging a fancy truffle oil, instead opting to design and make our own gift that showcases our creative capabilities. The result is a thoughtful pork-free vegetarian cookbook titled PigOut.
We believe this clever and well-designed cookbook provides opportunity for everyone to reach out to your clients and networks for China/ Asia related discussions, as these fast-growing markets are often of interest and importance to many companies. On top of building awareness, this gift demonstrates our capabilities and deep understanding of the culture and market.
How did this gift come to be and what does it say about Prophet?
We all agreed that the pig is a very misunderstood animal. Despite its humble appearance, it’s one of the most intelligent animals in the world who likes to be clean – who says it’s not taking the mud bath for its collagen-filled skin?! We found striking similarities between the pig and Prophet – we are both smart, optimistic and pragmatic!
Our amazing design team led by Carla and Stren envisioned the fantastic idea of a pork-free vegetarian cookbook. After all, how can you eat this lovely animal in its own year?! It’s also something practical, smart and modern. We even gave the book amazing names – PigOut & 猪事大吉 (courtesy of Tim Cong and Kaylyn).
The project was challenging but rewarding. Because it’s also the Year of the ‘Earth’ Pig (you can read up here what it means if you are into Feng Shui), we used earthy tones and a wood-like material as the book cover (which also mimics the chopping board). With beautiful watercolors, playful copywriting and recipes contributed by Propheteers in Asia, we made something truly unique.
